Bone Book Blog: Making when the world feels heavy

There are times when making art feels indulgent, even unnecessary, against the weight of the world. When daily life tightens, when uncertainty presses in, it can seem difficult to justify time spent in quiet attention.
And yet, this is often when the work matters most.
I do not make art to escape what is difficult. I make it to remain present within it. The act of returning to the studio — to the same image, the same materials, the same small gestures — becomes a way of staying oriented when much feels unsteady.
In hard times, I work more slowly. I simplify. I make fewer things and give them more time. The work becomes less about outcome and more about steadiness — about showing up, touching something real, and allowing attention to gather.
Art does not solve what is broken. It does not offer answers. But it can hold space. It can remind us of scale, of breath, of the quiet human capacity to shape something with care even when circumstances are strained.
The pieces offered through Willow & Wing are made in this spirit — not as distraction, but as companion objects for living through uncertain days.
Sometimes that is enough.
